STYLE BASE #14 – Yomzansi : Back To the City with Spook Gear

From his studio in Maboneng, Johannesburg Spook Lenzo has successfully re-vamped an old Mzansi classic.

The viscose shirt that achieved iconic status in the mid to late 90’s is back. Remarkably though, it is finding resonance with today’s cool kids born in the same era!

Throwback kid:
The Shelela edition hearkens back to the days when viscose ruled. A light, breezy fabric that works in just about any colour and design, it became a fashion staple of that era. Because everybody loves a good throwback, especially those still trapped in the 90’s (the best period to be alive anyway), the Shelela edition hits a nerve we all can relate to “When we created the Shelela range, we wanted to capture the essence of the early nineties.

It was a time of great excitement for South Africa and the SADC region as a whole. The ANC was unbanned and freedom was to be tasted in our lifetime. The fashion of those days reflected that too. A burst of optimism and a tapestry of colour. Today, we are facing similar energies. We borrowed the optimism of that era and managed to create what I believe is a new, versatile and dope range”
